The nominations for the 2024 Oscars were announced Tuesday, and the 96th annual Academy Awards features a strong group of “Best Picture” nominations.

IllinoisBet.com took a break from Illinois sports betting to delve into this year’s Oscars. Utilizing Google Trends, we analyzed the search volume of all the “Best Picture” nominees to discern which movie Illinois residents would pick as their official winner. All movies were analyzed over the last 90 days, based on traffic in the state of Illinois.

Oppenheimer Tops List in Illinois

The favorite to win Best Picture is the favorite search for movie buffs in Illinois as “Oppenheimer” topped the list with an interest score of 27.

Already the Golden Globes winner for Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director (Christopher Nolan) and Best Original Score (Ludwig Göransson), “Oppenheimer” is a biopic thriller based on J. Robert Oppenheimer, the â€œfather of the atomic bomb” for his role in the Manhattan Project during World War II.

Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon.” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro, came in second at 22, and “Barbie,” portrayed by Margot Robbie, along with Ryan Gosling as Ken, came in a close third (21).

The trio of Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe all are featured in “Poor Things” (14), which finished fourth. “The Holdovers,” starring Paul Giamatti, was No. 5 at 15.
