Illinois Starts Year Down from a Month Ago in Casino Revenue

The start of the New Year had a little bit of a stumble for Illinois casinos as official monthly figures for January were released Friday morning.

Retail casinos in the Land of Lincoln posted $118,642,380 in gaming revenue ($86,962,064 from EGDs, $31,680,315 from table games) for the month of January, down a solid 16.0% from December 2023 ($141,227,206 ($107,441,166 from EGDs, $33,786,040 from table games).

January’s number was the lowest since February 2023, when $115,016,247 in revenue was generated ($88,046,773 from EGDs, $26,969,474 from table games).

In 2023, the largest monthly casino revenue was December’s $141,227,206 total, beating out July’s $133,258,227 figure. March, September and November also had revenues in excess of $130 million. In 2023, the state generated $1,152,760,262 from EGDs and another $368,780,710 from table games - both of which exceeded Illinois’ totals from the 2021 and 2022 fiscal years.

Illinois December Sports Betting

Official Illinois sports betting figures were released for December with the state's fourth consecutive total handle in excess of $1 billion and a new record for total and mobile sports betting revenue.

Overall, Illinois sportsbooks took in a total handle of $1,314,056,821 in December, which was down 4.5% from November’s total of $1,375,398,292, but up 32.6% year-over-year from the $990,965,303 the same operators took in during 2022.
